In follow-up to my recent article List Of Non-Perishables To Stock Up On Through The Year, I wanted to blog about the items I focus on next in terms of planning for that perfect Christmas. Use by dates can be difficult to guess, particularly when you’re grocery shopping online, but here’s a list of long-date food & drink items to stock up summer (ish) going into Autumn.
These are edible products that tend to have the longest shelf-life, enabling you to add a few to each grocery shop from summer onwards for your Christmas stores.

- Rice
- Biscuits
- Cheese crackers
- Cereals
- Noodles
- Tinned foods
- Crisps
- Chocolate
- Advent calendars
- Selection boxes
Drink
- Squash & cordials
- Long-life milk (if you like to have some in your cupboards in case of emergencies)
- Top-ups for your Christmas drinks cabinet (alcohol & mixers)
Storing Your Food & Drink Supplies
I know storage space can easily become an issue. Think about spaces in your home which you could use or reorganise to fit some of your festive preparatory supplies in. Long-date food and drink could be stored under the stairs, in a cupboard (as long as it doesn’t get too warm), under the bed or on shelves in your laundry room.
Popping these long-date food and drink products in boxes is the easiest way to store them all together – and keep them out of sight so you’re not tempted to ‘dip into’ your precious Christmas/winter supplies before the season!
Cardboard boxes are fine, but I really like the thick, durable plastic Really Useful Boxes which are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. They are lidded and clip shut properly, so you can store food and drink plus items prone to climate or damp damage in other places, such as a sealed shed or the garage.
